On Local Dialects & English

So I just came from this argument with my mom. It was about speaking in local dialect versus speaking in English.

She says that there's actually no need to impose English if it can be said through the local dialect, because then it would seem like you're trying to up or brag to the person you're conversing with; that English is your thing and what not. Because not everybody can speak English flawlessly.

But that's not the point there you know? See, I'm not a native English speaker however there are instances that I prefer doing so because there just some things for me that is easier to say in English rather than the local dialect. Also, I gather my thoughts in English and then translate it verbally in the local language. I have it the other way around for some reason.

Plus, there are some things I can say in English but if I opted to say locally would sound 10x horribly wrong, not to mention offensive as well.

With regards to my mom's reason, I don't think it is required to speak English flawlessly because in the first place that is hard to do and next, I believe that as long as the thought is there even if it lacks articles such as "a", "an", "the", etc... and it is pretty understandable... it can pass. This is conversational English, okay? Written English is a different matter. I'm not a teacher but I will mark that an 'F' if you send me crap. I will unfriend on facebook as well if we happen to be friends there. Jk. Haha. Half-meant though. :))

Anyway, back to the story of the argument... It got to a point that it was an issue of nationalism for her of some sort. So yeah, never mind I just let her win because I refuse to let nationalism come between her and me.

Post-Note:

I think people should be at least bilingual. If English is not your native language, it is an absolute must that you learn at least the basics of it. If English happens to be your native language, then pick at least 1 other language to learn (French, Spanish, Italian, and Mandarin are a few options to start with) Not only are you making your universe more diverse, but that is another feather on your cap as well.

If people can spend hours on social networking sites, then surely they can spend time on acquiring another language, is it not?

Have a laid-back memorial weekend, everyone. :)

I am at Work, but OBVIOUSLY.. I am not working.

So I'm currently sitting here on my station munching on... guess what... SUBWAY SANDWICH. For the 2nd time this week. LOL.

I cannot say enough how much I love their BLT, of course if you have read the past post. And another MUST ADDITION? Chipotle West dressing. :D

Anyway, digressing. So like I said, I'm sitting down munching on Subway when I saw this girl at my workplace. No, I am not about to say anything mean or derogatory, but it's just that I remembered how we semi-casted her off intially without even talking to her.

See... she's like this.

And we're like chill, laidback like this...

HAH. I wish. For reals now..

PERFECTLY ACCURATE.

I guess with the way she dressed we already thought she's one of those head-up-in-the-clouds, I'm-better-than-you, fashion concious girls.

But I talk to her now, (I even gave her chocolates today, and NO THEY ARE NOT WITH POISON, LOL) and I'm thinking maybe fashion conscious... but the I'm-better-than you attitude, that I intially branded her with; that I am not certain of anymore.

I didn't really take into consideration that maybe she was just adjusting since she happened to be new in our department. Maybe I shouldn't have thought that she thinks she's too good to talk to us; because when I handed her the chocolates... she smiled at me and said thank you like so many times. -___- Makes me even more guilty to have thought bad things of her in the first place.

I guess my point for my entry today, is to remind myself (IN THE FUTURE) in case I stumble on this post again, that first impressions aren't usually 100% accurate. I myself tend to judge sometimes on how people look like. I can initially brand someone ditzy, mean, unpleasant (Obviously finding lighter terms to substitute the things I brand people with in reality) >.> This post is to remind myself to take a moment and try and converse with the said person first (minimum of a week) before passing my judgement.

Sometimes I want to stop this like... instinct (yes I am calling my prejudice as an instinct now like hunger, thirst, survival etc) however... But sadly I cannot give it up 100%. The thing is, my prejudice, assumptions and first impressions may not always be correct but from my past experiences until this point I am pondering about it... it usually is 80%, sometimes even 90% accurate.

Maybe in my past life I've been like so near to people without any concern at all for my welfare and kept abusing me, so by natural selection theory of Charles Darwin... nature has equipped me in my next life (which is now) the talent to discern 80% of what people are, and avoid them if they are of no means going to be good for me.

Post-note:

I have chewed on my sandwich for like the longest minute ever and realized that it is tasting... somewhat herb-y. I have tasted and smelled this before (on a Burrito) and felt hurling all I've eaten that day over the scent of it. Surprisingly, I can tolerate the smell of it on a Subway Sandwich.

I googled it, it's called..Asafétida in Spanish  or Hing in Hindu.

I know I know, the article is long. Did you read at least the subheading? Will generally give you the idea of why it is actually revolting for some people.

This is just proof of the wonders Subway Sandwiches can do to your sense of taste. ;) BWAHAHA.

Oh, and the images are not mine. I just googled them to give a better picture. >.> Btw, how come fashion girls I find on Tumblr usually has the face cropped? What's up with that.

Happy Long Weekend, people. Memorial day!!! :D

Subway's BLT

I have nothing to say but I regret the days I wasted not discovering how good Chipotle West dressing is.

I ate Subway today, like I did yesterday... Only I had the courage to try and put dressing in my sandwich. I normally eat it without any dressing at all, but...

NOW IT'S SO GOOD I MAY HAVE TO EAT AT LEAST TWICE A WEEK THERE. >.<

Sorry, got no picture to show you cause I ate it before I could even think of snapping photos.

But hey, all the more reason to drop by your nearest Subway and try it for yourself. :D

I'm constantly on this Subway branch that they already know what I'm ordering just by standing there, and also because I eat the same thing every single time. LOL.

Snoring is Rude in my opinion.

>.> I know I know some people cannot stop this. But you can prevent it from happening, I strongly suggest that of course you do take the necessary steps in doing so.

So I was like going to take a nap during my lunch hour. And so I did.

But I cannot sleep straight for 1 hour damn it 'cause "krrrrooooocccck ssshhhh", followed by "ssssh krrraaaaack"

And it was so loud that you will think it was some kind of broken lawnmower that has not retired yet.

The surprising thing?

WE were all GIRLS there.

Like how disgusting is that. I will be lenient on guys who do, but strongly prefer of course that they do NOT, however for girls to snore??! IT'S A BIG NO NO NO. It's different for like "heeef heef" sound some girls  do when they sleep (it sounds like a trapped mouse) that I will find okay and tolerable, maybe even into some degree cute... but if it sounds like a car failing to start itself, or that kind of cracking sound bed posts do when they finally give out after years of life (or maybe if you have gone exaggeratedly very heavy the bed cannot support you anymore)... NO THANK YOU.

Gawd. And to add to the insult, there's like 2 of them that was snoring. It was like a conversation of snores!!!!! Like continuous exchange of Morse code except 100x more annoying.

I myself know I do not snore. Yes, I know this for a fact because sometimes I sleep on my mom's sofa bed  in her room and of course if I happen to have snored or what, I know she would have told me. (I do not snore, however I hog the bed entirely to myself and I usually kick people who's within my supposedly sleeping territory range; which is bad as well, bad news especially to the future boyfriend but not half as bad as snoring!!!)

I'm not sure if snoring can happen if take medications, but I know for a fact that usually the primary causes of snoring are being overweight, smoking and consumption of alcohol.

IF you do any of the above and has been told that you do snore, please please TAKE ACTION so as not to distress some people if you are to share the same space as they do. Either that or stay in the same sleeping room with people who snore louder than you do. So you can bask in each other's snores and everyone else can be happily left sleeping quietly.

Them people should be thankful I did get a few minutes of decent nap else I would have set fire to their blankets while they we're sleeping. I did tower over them creepily though (like slenderman hahaha)  while they were snoring so blatantly loud as I sent cusses and curses via telepathy. ROFL.

Have a wonderful and lengthy, nightmare... k?

Share If You Care

I'm seriously bothered by this. We only have 1 Earth, and I believe we have to try our outmost best to conserve it before it's gone. I signed the petition, and if you care... You will as well.

Just because the situation is in Brazil is that we can just ignore it. Building the dam will affect not only indigenous people, but also the whole Earth as well. Why? Because building the dam would require hundreds, even thousands of trees to be wiped out just for this project alone. We already have enough problems when it comes to Global Warming, why add to it?

This is a cause not only for the Indigenous people of Brazil, but a great cause for the Earth as well.

THIS IMAGE SHOULD BE SEEN BY THE WHOLE WORLD

While magazines and TV chains report about the lives and love affairs of movie actors and actresses, football players and other celebrities, the Chief of the Kayapo tribe heard the worst news of his entire life:

Mrs. Dilma, the president of Brazil, has given her approval for the construction of an enormous hydroelectric central (the world’s third largest one).

This means the death sentence for ALL the tribes living at the shores of the river because the barrage will flood more or less 988,421 acres of the forest. More than 40 000 natives will have to find other living surroundings where they will be able to survive. The destruction of the natural habitat, the deforestation and the disappearance of several species of plants and animals will be a fait accompli.

We know that a simple image is the equivalent of a thousand words, it shows the price to be paid for the “quality of life” of our so-called “modern comforts.” There is no space in the world anymore for those who live differently. Everything has to be smoothed away, that everyone, in the name of globalization must lose his and her identity and way of living.

If this enrages you, I urge and implore you to "SHARE" this message to all your friends, relatives and acquaintances.

Thank you in the name of life, nature and biodiversity.

If you can spend 30 minutes, even hours in front of the TV, then I presume you can most certainly take just 5 minutes to look at this great cause for Earth and sign the petition.

Show your support for this great cause for Earth.

Please do help spread the world, and God bless your good heart. Help save the Earth before it's too late. :)
